Адаптація комбатанта, який бачив жахіття війни, до мирного життя не завжди відбувається просто. Людина, яка довго була відірвана від цивільного життя, повертаючись з війни, мусить починати все спочатку. Звикати до життя без вибухів, відновлювати здоров’я, шукати справу, яка зможе прогодувати ветерана та його родину. Багато колишніх вояків започатковують свою справу.
Здебільшого ветеранські проєкти є не просто комерцією чи виробництвом. Найкраще назвати їхні починання соціальним бізнесом. Ветеран хоче не тільки заробляти, а й приносити користь своїй країні, суспільству і найголовніше – допомагати побратимам, які теж повернулись після тривалих бойових дій.
Одним із таких соціальних проєктів є інтернет-магазин “Крамниця добрих подарунків” (КДП). Крамниця торгує товарами, які ветерани, волонтери та члени їхніх родин роблять власноруч. Здебільшого це унікальна ручна робота. Багато хто з комбатантів для психологічної реабілітації займаються творчістю: малюють картини, пишуть книги, роблять прикраси. Комусь займатись ручною працею порадили лікарі, щоб відновлювати моторику рук після поранень.
Прагнучи допомогти таким людям, ветеран Влад Якушев та волонтер Андрій Лотоцький створили інтернет-платформу і закликали ветеранів-майстрів розміщати на цій платформі свої вироби для продажу. Так з’явився магазин “Крамниця добрих подарунків”. Крамниця підтримує ветеранів, допомагаючи реалізовувати їхні вироби, а також відраховує 10% від чистого прибутку на соціальні проєкти, потреби військових у АТО, підтримку сімей загиблих воїнів.
Це справа, яка допомагає багатьом людям реалізувати себе, відчути потрібними, затребуваними.
Творці магазину та автори робіт, які у ньому продаються, більше, ніж партнери. Їх об’єднує те, що надійніше за будь-які контракти – військове братерство. В інтернет-крамничці є багато книг про російсько-українську війну на Донбасі, написані безпосередньо ветеранами. Також є чимало інших чудових виробів – з металу, з дерева, жіночі прикраси та інше. Brothers-in-arms: at war and back in civilian life
It is not always possible for a soldier who has witnessed the horrors of war to adapt seamlessly back into civilian life. A person who has been torn away from ordinary life for several long years returns from war and must begin life all over again. You must get used to life without bombs exploding unpredictably; you need to take care of your health, and engage in a work life that will provide for you as a veteran and for your family. A significant percentage of former soldiers want to work for themselves, and so they start their own businesses.
A common feature of these veterans’ projects is that they are not simply commercial enterprises or factories. It is more accurate to describe these start-ups as community involvement businesses. That is, the veteran wants to make a living and also contribute to the development of one’s country, society, and above all, to include assistance to his brothers-in-arms, namely to others as they follow that routine of returning to civilian life after an extended period of time under combat conditions.
One such community minded business project is the internet boutique, “Kramnytsia dobrykh podarunkiv” (KDP, The Good Gift Store). The store offers hand-made items created by veterans, members of their families, and civilian volunteers who in the past had engaged in fundraising and bought necessary items for the deployed soldiers. The hallmark of these gifts is that they are unique, individual works.
It is very common for veterans to begin art therapy for the sake of their psychological rehabilitation. Their artwork media include paintings, writing books, and making jewelry. They might have become artists at the encouragement of their doctors as a means of physical therapy and healing due to specific battle wounds. Often, one finds a growing collection of such artwork in the homes of these veterans, who make quality art but don’t know how to market them.
Motivated by a desire to be of assistance to such individuals, this internet platform was established. Vlad Yakushev, himself a veteran and author of the novel, “The Punishers”, together with Andriy Lototskiy, a civilian volunteer organizer assisting Ukrainian battalions, started KDP and put out a general call for veterans-artisans to display their crafts on the website and have them for sale. And that is how “The Good Gift Store” came to be.
The store’s business model envisions support for the commercial efforts of veterans, a marketing site for their work, and a charity aspect whereby 10% of profits are earmarked for community projects, the needs of military personnel in the war zone, and the financial support to the families of soldiers who died in the line of duty. From what the organizers have observed, this is a project that brings a great deal of satisfaction to many people, giving them a sense of purpose, and that all important feeling of being needed.
The initiators of the business and the creators of the products they sell are much more than business partners. Their bond goes beyond the signing of a commercial contract to that of a military brotherhood and family.
Items available for purchase include several books on the Russian-Ukrainian war in Donbas whose authors are eyewitness participants to those events.
